This commercial development in Taupo is one of many similar projects that we have completed. There were several novel structural features of the building that required outside thinking. The central glass atrium is supported on cantilevered steel beams cleverly designed to be seismically resilient and also to appear stylish.
The slender steel skeleton is designed to be hidden behind architectural columns but provides the necessary support to the building. A 3m high masonry wall provides much of the bracing for the structure as the seismic loads are braced back through the roof to this strong partition. The outcome is an economic, strong and aesthetic asset, and a very happy client.
